Due to the current state of the economy and rising costs we are very sad to announce the Mobile Pet Shop will close at the end of January. I would like to say a big sincere "Thank You" to all our customers for their support and custom over the last three years. It has been a wonderful three years and I have loved every minute of it. I have met wonderful people, many who are now friends. Not to mention all the lovely furry friends I am really going to miss visiting and my regular market visitors. Many thanks to you all. Oh Feathers!

Moulting is a natural process hens all go through once a year usually during the month of September (Autumn)

First of all you will notice they start to loose feathers, usually around the neck and back area first. Some hens with go noticably duller in colour during a moult, this is nothing to worry about as they will grow new feathers and soon be looking prettier then ever.

Moulting is a very stressful time for your hen as it requires a lot of energy to grow those new feathers.

Here are our top tips for helping your hen through her moult (PS Roosters moult too)

*Always have plenty water available (a few drops of apple cider vinegar in the water are a great tonic)

*Treat your hens for internal parasites (deworm) and external parasites before they go into moult

*Watch your hens comb for sign that she is not eating well (pale floppy comb)

*Increase the amount of protein in diet (scrambled egg, cheese, cooked meat but not chicken)

*we recommend Allen and Page Small Holder Super Mix Corn - this is slow energy releasing and therefore keeps your hens warm

We recommend Keepwell and Verm-X products, Poultry Zest is designed to help give your hens a boost during moulting
